Strengths: When night descends, Erebus is in his prime. He's bloated with power and takes great delight in manipulating the darkness in people's hearts.
Weaknesses: It should be obvious; sunlight is Erebus's Achilles heal. Well, any type of light, really. In broad daylight, Erebus is as powerless as any mortal. He can still sense darkness in mortal hearts but he can't manipulate darkness.
Fears: Being forgotten. The number one fear for deities is being forgotten and ceasing to exist.
Goals: Erebus's reason for existence is knowing his reason for existence. As long as people continue to grasp darkness, he will continue to know his reason for existing. He wants to turn more people over to the darkness to make him feel more alive.
Physical Ailments: N/A
Psychological Issues: Unlike humans, Erebus lacks the understand of right and wrong. He's been in the mortal realm long enough to know most things that he should or shouldn't do but there are still things you might find strange about him.
Personality:
Abilities: Erebus has the ability to control darkness, whether that means making a certain room or place dark or covering the sky with darkness. He also has the ability to sense and mold, the darkness in people's hearts, causing many to go mad or to act on dark thoughts.
Ability Weaknesses: There's not much Erebus can do during the day. Pure sunlight has a weakening effect in which he can do nothing where as being in a room with sunlight shining through the windows, he can manipulate shadows. It's the night where he can really flourish. If more and more people come to dislike darkness, Erebus's existence will begin to wane and he will eventually cease to exist.
History:
The swirling mass of darkness reached for him, like a child to a parent and he felt a cold breath brush across his skin. Behind him, those he called family blocked his return to the Divine. He knew it was inevitable. Eventually, his darkening mind would force him from the Divine to the dark Underworld. Since birth, his abilities had segregated him, forced others to hate him and remained as a scrap of thought in the minds of the other Gods. Even the mortal realm despised him, lighting fires and creating light in anyway they could to break through the Darkness. Why was he even created? What was his true purpose. Behind him, his sister's voice spoke up. She was always impatient. "There's no place for you here, anymore. Might as well face it and descend, Erebus." He looked over his shoulder, his mother pointedly looking the other direction while his father stood as a stoic figure, arms crossed over his chest. It had ultimately been his decision that had him banished and he'd never hated the man more than he did now. And Aither; out of everyone in his family, he thought that his own twin would stand with him, but since birth, they had been nothing but opposites and even now, she was more excited than the rest to be rid of him. With her fiery red hair, she stood like a burning beacon at the gates of Olympus, arms crossed over her chest much like their own father. "Be gone with you!" She cried, shooing him like a stray dog.
He looked back down at the swirling mass of darkness reaching up for him from the chasm of the Underworld. He could hear the screams of pain and terror of those lost souls and could feel the biting chill of the void. The darkness slithered around his ankles and legs, like a loving snake and he felt himself descending. The darkness enclosed around him, swallowing him, blocking out the light of the upper realm. And thus, Erebus's descent into Chaos began.
"Come now, Erebus. You can't mean to bring everyone into a state of madness, do you?" Hades, ever the calm ruler, lounged back on his ottoman, downing a bushel of grapes.
Erebus frowned, leaning his shoulder against the fireplace as he watched the blue flames dance behind the grate, their radiance giving off no heat. He'd decided to fill in the ruler of the Underworld about his revenge plan against the Higher Gods but Hades had merely laughed at him and told him of the story of his eternal battle against his brother Zues for the throne and his fall to the Underworld Defeating the Higher Gods and ultimately, Zues, was a losing game. "I'll do whatever it takes to have my worth noticed."
Hades slid the empty bowl of grapes onto the floor and stood, walking behind Erebus and throwing an arm over his shoulders. "As my half brother, I feel it necessary to warn you of the wrath of Olympus. There's a reason we are here, my boy. And ruling the Underworld is merely a perk." he patted Erebus on the shoulder before he turned and walked back to his ottoman. "But, by all means, take your chances. Sounds fun, if nothing else. What's the worse they'll do to you? You can't sink any further...."
And so he did. Erebus, using his ability of darkness, cast his darkness over Olympus, kidnapped his twin sister, who controlled the light, and descended onto the mortal world where he proceeded to create an endless darkness. Everywhere was in Chaos as days turned into night and stretched for endless eternity. His sister, unable to use her ability of the daylight to right the world, went into a state of madness, going as far as to sleep with her own brother and becoming his first wife. The Gods of Olympus declared war against Erebus and his army of the underworld. Like Hades had warned him, he was utterly defeated but not before a new belief was born within the mortals; a love of the darkness. With the beliefs and worship bolstering his existence, Erebus was finally able to return to the Underworld, content. Aither, however, was returned to Olympus where she eventually gave birth to Hemera, Goddess of the Day. However, because of his rebellion, Erebus was labeled as a Chaos God and stripped of any titles he may have had.
"This is interesting...." Hades circled the girl, clearly surprised. Erebus stood rigid as a board, his eyes never leaving hers. She had been nothing but a small child when he'd left and now she was standing in the underworld, a gift from Olympus to ensure his continued obedience. Though he no longer considered Aither his wife, it would be far harder to ignore his younger sister when she was to become his next wife. He'd always had more in common with her than Aither simply because she was the Goddess of the Night. She smiled up at her brother, her cheeks turning pink. "Hello, Erebus. I don't know if you remember me but I'm Nyx. I hope you'll accept me as your wife..." How could he not? His heart hammered against his chest as he felt himself moving forward. Nyx took after their mother, beauty uncompared. Hades smirked at Erebus. "You do realize that the Higher Gods are trying to tame you, right? She isn't fallen like you and still has sway on Olympus. If they tell her to kill you, she will. I say you send her back and-"
"Welcome to the Underworld, Nyx." he told her with a smile, finally reaching out and taking her hand. He was surprised at the warmth of her hand. Being one with the darkness for so long, he was icy to the touch but Nyx didn't even bat an eyelash. She grinned up at him, her eyes sparkling like the night sky. "I"m sorry you've been cast here, to this desolate hole in the void-"
"Hey!-" Hades sputtered angrily.
"-But your presence here, alone, makes my exile much brighter."
She giggled, fingers entwining with his own. "The dark night sky is so much prettier than the burning sun that scorches everything it touches."
And so, Erebus took Nyx as his second wife and the Olympians were successful in taming the Chaos God of Darkness.
The skyscrapers rose above him like a modern day palace. Erebus threw his head back, just attempting to catch a glimpse of the sky amoungst the see of metal and glass. The sun glared down at him and he smirked, almost feeling Aither's displeasure at his presence in the mortal realm. He felt a tug on his sleeve and he turned as he helped Nyx from the taxi. Her bulge wasn't large yet but it was obvious she was pregnant. The taxi driver opened the trunk and put their suitcases on the curb before Erebus handed him a couple bills. Nyx was gazing up at the buildings with obvious awe as well. "Erebus! Look at this place!"
The taxi driver drove off and Erebus bent and picked up their suitcases. "Come on, let's get our room. I like the power here. The night life here is much stronger than the day. This was the best place for us." He leaned over and kissed her forehead before the two of them entered the building.

CHAOS GOD
