Reapers
When the term 'Reaper' is used most picture a hooded figure cloaked in darkness wielding a scythe, ready to reap your soul and guide it to the next world upon death. Although such beings have yet to be proven (or disproved) to exist, the residents of San Fransisco conjure up an entirely different meaning.



Ever since souls have been released from the prison world, Reapers have been the sole source of their return. Reapers are the bounty hunters to the 'Damned' - prisoners considered too evil or corrupt to be among society and therefore locked away for eternity. Although they do not chase every single escapee, they are bound by contract to capture any Shade that poses a threat to the city or its people and must do so without question.



However, like the criminals they chase, Reapers are sentenced to a life of servitude. Though that's never stopped anyone from trying to break free, not many have survived by doing so. The only case of a Reaper breaking free is that of the infamous Jack the Ripper - who was undoubtedly a prisoner before his skill set was seen as 'useful' by the Reapers until his treachery.



Reapers can be of any species and background, but humans are excluded due to the fact of their fragile state. Most Reapers are selected due to a particular skill or ability that provides them the best chance of capturing their target, and in some cases they are chosen to target a specific person or species depending on their attributes or personal goals.



Reapers are only limited in their abilities by the simple fact they are not on this plane. Seeing as many Reapers are actually prisoners given a chance at redemption, they are still constricted by what they can and cannot do. Though they may be able to retain their original image, it is merely an illusion and thus they cannot eat, sleep, or divulge in human pleasures as their targets may.
