Ailuranthrope, or Werecats, are a supernatural group of shapeshifters that take the form of a feline species.
Recognized as the Assassins of Nature, they were also servants to the Triad. The first group of Werecats were granted such powers by the Triad as a means of discretion and constructed what, in their belief, to be the ultimate killer against the undead. With the rise of Vampires came destruction and chaos so in order to combat this problem the Witches came together and formed the very first Werecats using prisoners of war or other shape-shifting witches in debt to the Triad. Made to believe they were doing a great service to their people, the Werecats obediently served the Triad for centuries. For the first century of their existence they ran as supreme as the Lycans and it was believed the ancient undead species would finally become extinct.
This luck would change however when the alliance between the Triad and the Original Packs became strained until finally the packs left the protection of the Triad nearing the end of the 14th century. Seeing this as treachery they eradicated the wolves, and by the late 16th century only a few packs remained. Alot of the deaths were met out by Werecats, angry over the fact that because of the Lycans' betrayal all of them were punished to tranformations limited to the light of the moon only. Though through high emotions such as anger and love, they were able to show certain traits such as golden cat-like eyes and fangs. Because of their feline likeness they even have retractable claws that grow from their fingernails that the older ones can learn to bring them out at will.
The first Werecats were Shapeshifters with enhanced abilities and massive amounts of power. Due to their ability to become practically immortal through maintaining their animal form they often preferred to remain that way for extended periods of time, only reverting back to human every 100 years to mate. Like the Lycans, the Werecats eventually rebelled, realizing killing what was essentially their kin just because they chose to live outside the Triad's rule was wrong. A group of Werecats left the Triad, but not without a parting gift. They left a few members dead in their wake to give themselves time to become ghosts. Trained in stealth and how to disappear, they were harder to find and kill than their wolfy counterparts but the Triad were still able to kill a significant amount of them. As time progressed, the Werecats have acclimated themselves into the human world quite easily. Some eventually found their way to Hallow Oaks.
A Werecat transformation is even more painful than a Lycan's, though most begin to enjoy the pain because it happens so often. The first transformation is the hardest, being the first time their bones shift and twist to get transform into their new form. It starts when their body temperature spikes, making them feel extremely hot. They become covered in hair and their muscles bulk up to size. A Werecat will experience their first shift at the age of puberty, but in rare cases can be caused by extreme emotion under a traumatic event.
Werecats can tap into their inner feline willingly and they aren't forced to shift every month, but can only shift into their feline form under the rays of the moon during any cycle. However, during the cycle of a full moon it is said to be the one night a Werecat is at their peak. It is under the full moon that most kills are waged as it is believed to bring out the most vicious and feral side of a Werecat, therefore making them nearly unstoppable at this time.
Though they are not forced to shift every month it is highly recommended a feline does shift regularly as not doing so can prove unhealthy for both the feline and the people around them. If forced to prevent a shift they will become extremely temperamental and will succumb to fits of rage until they are allowed to shift. Like Lycans, they can choose to appear as a feline or a man-like feline hybrid, though a simple feline form proves easier for first time shifters.
Werecats' do not have the Lycans' pack mentality for the most part. Werelions are the only real exception. The others tend to remain solitary or with a single partner. Loyalty is there, but not nearly as strong as that of a wolf's. They have a much hotter temper and tend to be even more possessive and territorial, having a difficult time with the idea of sharing. Most of them still keeping their murderous roots, they do tend to go for the kill without asking questions. Werecats are the ones that fight strictly to kill when they feel threatened. They rarely leave someone bleeding. Children tend to learn all the ins and outs of their kind and how to control their shifts and temper by their parents. Once they mastered their shifts, they are expected to venture off on their own, though the more traditional families that stick to their assassin heritage also expect their children to follow suit.
A single bite can weaken a vampire but cannot turn a witch or human. Only those born with the gene can become Werecats. When a Vampire is bitten they are infected but do not die from the infection alone. It is merely served as a means to injure the Vampire to make killing them an easier task.
Because of their origins as Shapeshifters, Werecats inherited the ability to sense danger around them. A strange, unsettling feeling consumes them even though they do not know why and will instinctively take precaution until the feeling has subsided. Much like that of the Lycan's and a feline, Werecats have superior hearing, smell, and sight, even in human form. Their sense of sight being their greatest attribute. They are strong and can bust through most things, but they aren't all quite as strong as Lycans though the bigger breeds have been known to match them. They are known to be even more graceful, agile and stealthy than vampires, making up for their lesser strength. If they can attack without being seen, a vampire stands no chance, especially on a full moon.
In both feline and Human form, Werecats are able to communicate and in some cases control their smaller ancestor felines. They also have the ability to communicate with other Werecats telepathically in feline form as well.
The only way to kill a Werecat is by heart extraction or decapitation. Silver or other metals only cause irritation and in most cases will just piss them off. Ingredients such as Wolfsbane is a highly effective sedative that can easily take down even the most aggressive werecat with a single dose. Like all species, werecats are susceptible to all forms magic.

The Breeds
Tigers - excellent swimmers and the Siberian tigers tend to be the largest; all tigers tend to be the most lethal of the bunch and the least forgiving
Cheetahs - the fastest of the group, they also are the only breed that can grow their claws out in human form despite the fact that their claws are not retractable in the cat form or hybrid form like that of the Lycans, Jackals, and Bears
Leopards - they are excellent climbers and the strongest of the bunch, lifting up to three times that of human
Jaguars - they are just as good at climbing as they are at swimming and thus are the fastest at thinking quick to accommodate and change tactics as needed
Cougars - they excel at hiking through rough and rocky terrain while still remain stealthy
Snow Leopard - they have the highest tolerance for cold climates, tigers rearing in at a close second and can surpass the cougar for handling even higher elevations because of this.[/ul][/div][/div][/div]
