Relatively unknown until about the last century, Ghouls hadn't need a place for protection. However, as more and more were discovered and killed, a need to hunt more down and kill them forced them into the open. The first Ghoul to arrive at Hallow Oaks was a young boy hand in hand with his vampire guardian. Since then, the population of Ghoul within the town are growing. Though still regarded as dangerous and kept under strict supervision, they are free from prosecution. The amount of surviving Ghouls within the town has caught the attention of the Original Ghoul who's come to Hallow Oaks merely out of curiosity.

The Original ghoul used to be a vampire. Long ago, a warlock had been dealing with demons and Dark magic and accidentally had himself possessed. The demon, after years, completely took over his human host, even going as far as to kill the human soul, essentially gaining a body for itself. This warlock/demon was eventually attacked by a vampire named Eion looking for blood and was infected with demon poison. Thus, creating the Ghouls. No longer immortal but living extended lives, they are no longer ruled by just blood, Ghouls became far more dangerous; able to blend into human society as easily as a wolf among sheep.

It's rare to be turned into a Ghoul. One must actually eat a part of a Ghoul to become one. Most cases of this are vampires to Ghoul. It has, however, been done, especially with those humans who practice cannibalism and don't realize their food is a Ghoul.
[break][break]
Breeding among ghouls is kept between ghouls. Mostly because humans see ghouls as murders and to humans, cannibalism is a great sin. So ghouls keep themselves unknown to humans. But every once in awhile, a human will get into a relationship with a ghoul and even rarer, produce a child. But the chances of its survival are slim. If its a human mother with a Ghoul father, she must be able to eat human flesh to feed her child. And if its a ghoul mother with a human father, the mother’s body usually mistakes the fetus as food and absorbs it. Nine times out of ten, the fetus dies, unable to sustain life. But if a hybrid child is born, they have all the characteristics of their ghoul parent except they only have one "ghoul eye" versus both eyes turning black and red. They can also eat human food. If a Ghoul breeds with other supernatural creatures, the affect is the same but if a child is born of a supernatural parent, the child will always be Ghoul. Vampire/Ghoul children will always be Ghoul. No vampirism at all.

Retractable fangs: Like their ancestors the vampires, Ghouls also have retractable fangs serve as their main tool for feeding as well as defense. They are described as being similar to a piranha with razor sharp edges for easy penetration. They can also grow inch long claws from the tips of the fingertips that serve has tools for both feeding, offense and defense.

Feeding: When a Ghoul is hungry or feeding, they enter the state that makes them Ghouls. Their irises glow red and the whites of their eyes turn black. They also have black veins that become noticeable along their eyes and cheeks. This is a state which Ghouls are at their strongest and are the most "monster" like. I wouldn't recommend tangling with them in this state.

Heightened senses: Impeccable strength, senses, and speed are attributes all thanks to their vampire ancestors, though these are only heightened with experience.

Blood: The one ability that sets them closer to their demon heritage is the hardening of their blood. A Ghoul's blood, when freed from the body whether through a cut or nose bleed, can be altered and hardened to create a weapon. Ghouls can create swords from their blood that are just as hard as the real thing or even create whips. Whatever creative thought comes to mind. But using this ability, if too much blood is used and thrown away, can cause a Ghoul to become anemic and weak. This ability was thought to be a cursed version of a water element magic the original warlock had.

Human food: Human food tastes foul to a ghoul. They can't stomach it. In fact, they usually throw it up. They've managed to blend in with humans by learning to chew 10 times and swallow it whole but they have to regurgitate it up before they digest or they become extremely sick.
[break][break]
Consumption: Ghouls only eat human flesh but they only have to eat once a month. Anymore than that usually marks a ghoul in its community as a glutton and they are normally shunned or killed, depending on the community.
[break][break]
Weather: Any sort of precipitation; snow, rain, fog etc. Makes ghouls weak and sleepy. Because of this, they tend to keep indoors during these times.

Mortal: Ghouls can be killed as easily as any human. Most Ghouls who were once vampires tend to die quickly, forgetting they can no longer

Where Vampires have to drink blood just to survive, Ghouls, thanks to their demon heritage, require more. Blood simply does not appease them. They must consume the flesh of humans to satisfy themselves. Ghouls cannot eat any human food. For young Ghouls, the very smell of human food can have them throwing up but older Ghouls, who have been able to control themselves, are able to chew a few times on human food and swallow to appear human but must throw it all up within the hour to keep from getting dangerously sick. Young Ghouls learn this ability before they begin to mingle with humans. The only thing Ghouls can stomach is coffee and water. You'll find a lot of coffee shops owned by Ghouls.

Ghouls only need to eat once a month to keep from going hungry which makes it easier to get their food without alerting other humans around them. However, if a Ghoul misses their monthly meal, they lose control and enter a state of "blood lust" in which the Ghoul remains in its "Ghoul State" (red/black eyes, teeth and claws, etc.) and goes on a rampage, eating whoever happens to cross their path, until they're full. This is usually when Ghouls are found and killed. When not in Ghoul state, they appear like any other human, even living normal human lives.
